Integral Steel designed, detailed, fabricated, delivered, and installed all structural steel for The Brooklyn Tower at 9 DeKalb Avenue, Brooklyn’s first supertall skyscraper and the tallest structure in any New York City outer borough. The 93-story, 1,066-foot mixed-use tower was developed by JDS Development and designed by SHoP Architects, and contains 150 condominium units, 280 market-rate rentals, 120 affordable rental units, and a 100,000 SF retail podium incorporating the landmarked Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. integral-steel

The structural challenge was considerable: a supertall tower with a complex hexagonal geometry and dramatic cascading setbacks, rising from a base that had to integrate the preserved 1906 landmark bank building. The exposed structure features a combination of reinforced concrete and steel framework, with Integral Steel’s scope covering connection design alongside McLaren, in close coordination with structural engineer Severud Associates and construction manager Structuretone. Working at supertall heights in a dense urban Downtown Brooklyn site, the team delivered the steelwork to programme and specification on one of the most high-profile residential towers built in New York City in recent years.

The project team includes developer JDS Development, architect SHoP Architects, and structural engineer Severud Associates.
